Arlington, TX opens new animal shelter

Following on the heels of the new state-of-the-art animal shelter in Dallas, TX, the City of Arlington opened the doors on their new facility last Wednesday – only weeks before the City of Farmers Branch plans to debut their new shelter!  The Star Telegram reported that more than a dozen animals found homes during the shelter’s grand opening celebration.

The multi-million dollar shelter, funded from bond money and donations, features several upgrades to the overall experience including climate-controlled kennels with state-of-the-art sanitation and ventilation systems, large adoption displays with natural light, and rooms where people can play with animals they’re thinking of taking home. Hopefully the brighter – and quieter – environment will be healthier and less stressful for the animals as well as creating an atmosphere more conducive to adoptions.

The Arlington shelter also has a clinic where rescued animals can be treated on-site and adopted animals can be vaccinated, microchipped and spayed or neutered before going to their new homes.

Soon even more improvements will include a computerized kiosk where people can search for their lost pets or other animals not yet available for adoption, and plans for a barn and corral area behind the shelter to house rescued or abandoned livestock. Recommendations have been made to ensure adequate staffing and the City will evaluate operations over the next couple of months to evaluate whether additional staffing is required.
