Out of Code Into Compassion

One of my favorite all time articles about the always-evolving role animal control plays in a community is “Out of Control and into Compassion” by Carrie Allan from the July/August 2009 edition of Animal Sheltering Magazine.

If you’ve got a few minutes and you’re trying to understand how we got to where we are, check it out HERE.   It’ll give you a pretty good idea of the progress animal shelters across the country have made over the years.

Although in our case a better title might be “Out of Code and into Compassion”.

I love that article!! I write a weekly column on pets and animals for ntxe-news.com in Fannin County and wrote on that article right after it was published. People in Fannin County have tried for more than 12 years to get the City of Bonham to do something about its one-room, concrete block building about the size of a double garage, no windows, no air control, no euthanasia area. We got the County involved and raised pledges of over $200,000 to build it, and still they won’t do it.
